The Road Not Taken

Robert Frost Bio

Robert Lee Frost was an American poet and four-time Pulitzer Prize winner (1924, 1931, 1937, 1943). He served as U.S. Poet Laureate in 1958–59. Known for his vivid depictions of rural New England life and mastery of everyday speech, Frost used natural settings to illuminate deeper truths about choice, solitude, and the human condition. "The Road Not Taken" was first published in The Atlantic Monthly, August 1915, and opened his 1916 collection Mountain Interval.

Two roads diverged in a yellow road, And sorry I could not travel both…
I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Eudora Welty Bio

Eudora Alice Welty was an American short-story writer, novelist, and photographer born in Jackson, Mississippi. A lifelong Southerner, she won the Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for The Optimist's Daughter and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1980. Her fiction — rooted in the rhythms and voices of the American South — transforms the ordinary into the profound. A Worn Path (1940) is among her most celebrated and enduring stories.

I'm bound to go, I'm bound to go, Where the lone road lies, Where the wild wind blows…

T. S. Eliot Bio

Thomas Stearns Eliot was an American-born British poet, playwright, and literary critic, born in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to England in 1914 and became one of the defining voices of literary Modernism. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948, Eliot is best known for The Waste Land (1922) — widely considered the most influential poem of the twentieth century — and Four Quartets (1943). His earlier The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock (1915) also remains a cornerstone of modern poetry.

Unreal City, Under the brown fog of a winter dawn, A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many, I had not thought death had undone so many. Sighs, short and infrequent, were exhaled. And each man fixed his eyes before his feet.

Paul McCartney Bio

Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by The Beatles, released on 26 September 1969 — the last album they recorded together as a band. Produced at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London under George Martin, it became one of the best-selling and most acclaimed albums in history. Side Two features a celebrated medley of interconnected songs, including Golden Slumbers — a lullaby drawn from a Thomas Dekker (c. 1572–1632) poem and transformed by Paul McCartney into one of the most tender and moving moments in rock music.

Once there was a way to get back homeward, Once there was a way to get back home. Sleep, pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes, Smiles awake you when you rise. Sleep, pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby.
